20/52 & 21/52

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, 2014."

August: He doesn't say many words. Talking, he just isn't into it. But sounds! He is reheheally good at sounds. He mimics any sound he hears with accuracy. And he stores away his new noises and spends entire days practicing them. His noise for babies is a very tender and soft "nah-nah". When he spots a baby in the grocery store or sees his younger cousin he says a sweet "nah-nah." He will walk over to my legs and press his face into my big belly and say "nah-nah". And although he is probably clueless that there is in fact a baby in my belly, that nose nuzzle and soft "nah-nah" make me think otherwise. As much as I can't wait to meet her, I just can't wait for him to meet her.

Baby: Last night, Jared and I watched videos of when August was born and our first week home. I was reminded of the most painfully beautiful days of my life. And now I can't quit daydreaming about you and praying that newborn mothering will be more natural for me this time around. And just now I remembered that I don't remember how to swaddle.
